Study On The Key Technology Of RFID Application In The Pharmaceutical Supply Chain

RFID technology is considered to be the next step revolution in the Pharmaceutical supply-chain. FDA has been putting great effort to extend the adoption and common use of RFID as standard track and trace technology. RFID middleware is used as a solution to manage the devices and data of RFID applications. However, the RFID middleware available nowadays are all designed for common use without any consideration of industry features.This paper focus on developing an industry oriented RFID middleware in order to make the integration of RFID more convenient and efficient. We use complex event processing technology to process the data we get from RFID devices and combine them into meaningful complex events and then transfer to the business layer. By using industry oriented RFID middleware, the application developers need not concern the realization details of RFID technology and can be absorbed in the development of business logic.First, the author analyzes the status of current RFID middleware platform and its application in the pharmaceutical supply-chain. With the requirement of RFID application in this area, the author brings forward three design principles of industry-oriented RFID middleware. Second, based on the requirements, the author designs the complex event processing mechanism in RFID middleware and puts forward the current complex event processing language to match the use in this area. Finally, the author presents the implementation of industry oriented RFID middleware, including the architecture of the application, the RFID middleware as well as the complex event processing component.Now, the industry oriented RFID middleware is used in the laboratory of Shanghai Jiaotong University. The research would advance the study and application of integration of RFID technology in pharmaceutical supply-chain. At the same time, it can be referenced by other industries.
