Recently, PTC (Positive Temperature Coefficient) elements are widely used in different industry fields. As a result, measurement of the PTC element parameters is very important for its theoretical study and application. Meeting with the demand of production and the practical application, combining with the common PTC element parameters testing theory and methods, a newly solution is proposed in parameters testing of PTC element, and it is called PTC parameters testing system based on virtual instrument.Virtual instrument results of technology of modern measuring combined deeply with the technology of computer. In this paper, the automatic PTC parameters testing system based on virtual instrument, which helps complete automatic testing system with resistance-temperature, current-time, voltage-current characteristic parameters test, data acquisition, processing and saving.First, this paper introduces the basic features, working principles and typical application on PTC. With the general theoretical analysis of auto-measurement technologies based on virtual instrument, it gives the systemic frame of the testing system.Then, this paper gives details about the system realization including hardware and software parts. In hardware part, the design of this system and the functional module are referred. The software part contains the system flow and each module's arithmetic realization.The experiment data shows that the PTC parameters system described by this paper has completely realized. It can measure the important parameters of multiple-channel PTC elements, and it has met the customs'requirements with the characteristics of high precision in data acquisition, friendly interface between operator and test system and steady operation.
