As the key technology of optical fiber communication network, optical transceiver module (optical module for short) is an important component in the optical fiber communication systems. Optical module parameters testing process now still primarily uses traditional instruments to control various knobs, buttons and through human eyes to record form or data from instruments. Virtual instrument automatic testing system replaces the existing manual testing method. It improves the test accuracy and efficiency and makes the complicated test automatic and simple.This paper uses advanced virtual instrument technology in field of measurement and control, and then develops an optical module automatic testing system on the basis of existing instruments and equipment. The main researching contents are as follows.1. Control the instrument and equipment using VISA (Virtual Instruments Software Architecture) Technology, and package the testing task of instruments according to the functional requirements of system, and then provides functionality level interface to use.2. The realization of the calibration of intelligent optical digital diagnostic function by using the SFF-8472 agreement, then it makes monitoring values can truly reflect the actual values. Give the detailed design of the DS1856 chips as the calibration of digital diagnostic controller.3. The realization of automatic testing of optical transmitter module parameters. Control Agilent 86100C and get parameters of optical transmitter module by using computer. The key technology is the control of Agilent 86100C instrument.4. The realization of automatic testing of optical receiver module parameters. Instead of traditional buy adjusting attenuator and viewing Bit Error Rate to get final sensitivity, it gets the relation of Bit Error information and optical power, and then gets the fitting line, and then we can calculate the sensitivity values according to the line. This method is an efficient and accurate test method. In addition, we can get optical receiver module Assert/Deassert alarm signal of LOS information. Automatic testing subsystem of receive capability of optical module is the difficulties and priorities of the whole system. 5. Research on database management based on LabVIEW technology, it implements optical module to save data management system by using LabSQL toolkit.
