The 3rd generation mobile communication system, such as WCDMA (Wideband Code Division Multiple Access) system is constructed by core network system, radio access network subsystem and user equipment. WCDMA system is designed for voice, data communication and multimedia. As a result, it will be a great challenge for telecommunication operator to manage and maintain WCDMA network. They also have to face the competition pressure from other WCDMA operators. In order to be able to monitor real-time network performance and improve the efficiency of the network to reduce operating costs (OPEX), and improve service quality (QoS) and core competitiveness, mobile operators for more urgent needs WCDMA.WCDMA network management system achieves the goals into the following seven major categories: (1) Manage the various different equipments, including the management system itself; (2) Reduce WCDMA network management complexity; (3) Reduce WCDMA network management costs; (4) Provide integrated fault management capabilities;(5) Provide flexible, rapid deployment of configuration management;(6) Provide the statistical analysis capabilities;(7) Provide a safety management system based on the entire WCDMA network safety mechanism.To achieve the above objectives, how to design a functional complete, structured, effective WCDMA network management system, is worthy of consideration and deliberation, but also network operators and equipment manufacturers are most concerned about issues.The main contents of studies of this dissertation is WCDMA network management system design issue which include common management function module design; specific applications management module design, network management system platform design, network design and Interface-North design.Following several aspects are in detailed study:1. WCDMA network structure analysis, which described the network elements and interface protocols in WCDMA.2. WCDMA network management system network design, include WCDMA network management system platform design and the WCDMA core network, radio network connectivity network design and IP address allocation rules.3. WCDMA network management system function module analysis, raised common management module and specific applications management module concept. Based on this concept, we divided WCDMA network management system into different levels and modules. Furthermore, we designed several special WCDMA network management functions which can help WCDMA network operator to manage WCDMA network effectively.4. WCDMA network management system Interface-North research, include Int-N location, Int-N definition and three key phases to realize the Int-N.The key technologies touched upon in this dissertation are: WCDMA , Network Design, Fault Management, Configuration Management, Performance Management, Security Management,Specific applications of core network, Specific applications of radio network, Interface-North. Among these technologies, the innovative achievements made in this dissertation are described as follows:1. Take a real WCDMA trial system network design as a reference; describe the network design of WCDMA network management system. 2. After analyzing the needs of WCDMA network management system, raised common management module concept and detail described the design requirements of various sub-modules in common function management module.3. Design specific applications management module according to the structure of WCDMA network. Considering the difference between core network circuit switch domain, core network packet switch domain and radio access network domain, sub-modules are designed specially for the three different domains.4. Presents the three phases to realize the Int-N, there are interface function definition phase, interface analysis phase and interface design phase.
