Power Line Carrier (PLC) technology is a special communicating way to transmit data or signals on electrical wire. The working process of PLC is that the information need to be sent is firstly modulated in a high-frequency signal which will be loaded and transmitted on power line. Special PLC modem separates this information from high-frequency signal on power line at terminal and sends it to end device. Power supply network extends in all directions and low-voltage electric line can be found in billions of families. So data communication through power line need not to impropriate wireless channel resources and pave definite-purpose communication line. It also can take full advantage of electric facilities and exert power resources. Power cable as a house bus has been used for house intelligence and access of network service in recent years. Therefore, there is a wide foreground for the study and application of low-voltage power line communication technology.There are large of important facilities, such as pumps, compressors, HVAC, ventilation and motors in industry enterprise. These facilities locate in each floor and every area of industry enterprise. If monitoring on line like large-scale facilities, there are many difficulties not only in the cost but also in the actual conditions. So it is pressing and urgent to design facilities monitor system that can solve the above problems.This paper studies the facilities monitor system based on PLC technology. The system has not only the units of PLC modem, DDC controller and sensors but also the function of signal processing, data acquisition, data transmission, data analysis, and data display and storage. The system can monitor important facilities effectively and reduce downtime then enterprise will make great strides in facilities management.This paper focuses not only on the research of power line carrier technology but also on the design of facilities monitor system using PLC technology. The main contents are as follows:Firstly, this paper studies the characteristic, technology and the development direction of PLC. Then the paper selects one PLC Modem to setup facilities monitor system based on analyzing the technology and speciality of several PLC modems.Secondly, based on the status of factory, the paper analyses the requirements of facilities monitor system. The system uses PLC technology to construct its communication network. The contents, requirements and principle of facilities monitor system are presented on this paper.Thirdly, the paper designs and completes the system architecture, hardware definition and connection, communication protocol and monitor according to the system requirements. The communication of this system was realized.Fourthly, the paper introduces graphical interface software– Siemens Insight briefly and sets up database of system. After software programming, model compiling and interface editing, a facilities monitor system with graphical interface was realized.
