Power line is the most important and the last part of the power-system. With the development of automatization of power line, the requirement of using the power line as a communication channel to transfer the control-signal and data becomes more and more urgent. At the same time, the development of Internet requires more bandwidth. Updating the power line to the broadband network has a number of advantages. As a special network, its hostile channel properties such as complex topology, very low impendence, strong noise pollution, attenuation and time-variance must be considered. In this paper, we mainly focus on the development of a power line product and a design of a power line communication (PLC) systems. The first part of the paper introduces the product for PLC, a power line carrier FSK-Modem. Basing on its special design and development method, this modem is introduced from its software design. The second part shows a spread spectrum transmitter for PLC. In this part, depending on the multi-path signal propagation model for the power line channel in the high frequency range, which was brought forward by Zimmermann M & Dostert K, we research the main factors influencing system's performance, such as system sample rate, adaptive filter, matched filter, shaping filter and so on.In chapter one we introduce the background of PLC. Chapter two shows the details of the system's structure, realization and performance-analysis of the PLC FSK-Modem. In chapter three the structure of spread spectrum transmitter for PLC, realization and the characters of power line channel are introduced, as well as the analyses of system performance grounding on the simulations.
