Image coding and compression technology is the current hot research of image processing field. The image coding and compression technologies based on the JPEG2000 standard is studied in this article, which focus on region-of-interest (ROI) compression and EBCOT optimization algorithm.The so-called compression based on the region of interest is that using priority codec or lower compression ratio in the important part of the image (ROI), and using codec or a high compression ratio in the unimportant part (that is, non-interest regional)in order to achieve increased compression efficiency under the premise of the quality assurance of the interest regional. In this thesis, the ROI coding based on the JPEG2000 standard is researched and realized. After a detailed study of several algorithms on the basis of ROI, a new algorithm ROI: Q-ROI algorithm is presented and achieved by programming. The experimental results are analyzed, and the relevant conclusions are provided for reference.In this thesis, a parallel algorithm of EBCOT based on RPC which is to speed up the process of EBCOT is presented through researching about embedded block coding with optimized truncation in JPEG2000,and remote procedure call (RPC) protocol. The problems of wavelet transform and EBCOT speed mismatch are solved to a certain extent, and the whole compression process id speeded up.
