With the increasing use of multimedia technologies, image compression requires higher performance as well as new features. To address this need in the specific area of still image encoding, a new standard is currently being developed, the JPEG2000.It not only allows images to be coded with clearly better visual image quality, it also addresses a series of other issues. Unification of lossless and lossy compression modes, robustness to bit-errors to allow image transmission over noisy channels and provision of regions of interests(ROIs) are only some of those that have been incorporated into the new standard. It has great variety of applications such as Internet, digital cameras, wireless communication and medical image. JPEG2000 plays an important role in military and civil field.In this thesis, a hardware and software cooperating system of still image encoder and decoder based on JPEG2000 is proposed. The JPEG2000 architecture is studied, whose core algorithm(EBCOT) is programmed in C language and implemented on PC. Another, in full consideration of hardware resources, a special image encoding and decoding hardware system is designed, where TI's TMS320DSC25 DSP chip is chosen as its key processor. Finally, the algorithm code is migrated on hardware platform. According to the hardware system request, the code has been chosen .adjusted and optimized. The software system and the hardware system has achieved a kind of fusion, alleviated the bottleneck. The conclusion indicated that the system enhances the encoding speed as far as possible in guaranteeing compression ratio and picture quality. It basically has satisfied the system request. |
