Study On Novel Fiber Grating Current Sensor

With the rapid development of electric power industry, traditional current sensors are not satisfied with the requirement of technique. Fiber current sensors will substitute for traditional current sensors, for its good electric insulation, small volume and high sensitivity. FBG current sensor is one of the hot researches in sensor field. But most of the researches are still in the stage of lab experiments and have not yet met the requirements of the practical production.In this paper, on the basis of existing FBG current sensors and from the point of practice, a novel current sensor based on FBG temperature model has been designed, and its sensing character has been analyzed in detail. The major work includes:(1) the basic theory of FBG current sensor including the operating principles, character of the structure.(2) selection of the temperature sensing model based on the existing FBG current sensors, and an assumption of plating a layer of good conductor on the surface of FBG has been put forward. After trying several good conductors, select Au as the conductor, and make a novel sensing head.(3) Comparing several kinds of demodulation technology such as: OSA, F-P filter, non-linear M-Z interferometer and matching FBG Finally OSA as our demodulation equipment has been used in the experiment.(4) establishment of the experiment platform, and the performance of the FBG current sensor has been tested for many times. Analyzing experiment data and errors, and the next step of study has been discussed. Through the experiment, it proves to be that the novel FBG current sensor has many advantages such as simple structure, high precision, excellent repeatability and can be hopefully put into practice.
