With the growth and popularization of internet, most of the Chinese universities have formed lots of information systems and basically realized the online management of campus news and routine office work.However, one problem remains that although the information system functions have been developed fully and completely, an access to those available network resources still needs a connection between computer terminal and fixed network line. Demands for campus mobile service by vast mobile users are becoming increasingly urgent and pragmatic. WAP is a kind of effective combination of internet and mobile communication technology.It is an open protocol standard universal in world providing mobile users with internet information services and value-added services. Through WAP, mobile users can get the rich and tremendous internet resources handy.This paper takes an insight into the structure, application model and developing technologies of WAP.It proposes a novel set of user demands for campus wireless information portal ,build up functional model of campus wireless portal,analyse data flow within the system and give out the plan for the system's implement by comparing them with those of traditional campus information portal and fully taking account of the limitations of wireless environment.It further designs and realizes a wireless information portal for real case of Beijing Forestry University, meanwhile summarizing the key technical difficulties during the developing process and working out the corresponding solutions. Finally, it puts forward further suggestions of how to improve the system. This paper is a novel try for the application of wireless information portal.
