With the coming of the era of web as the major medium of information dissemination, more and more attention has been paid to the development of academic journals. To increase the speed and efficiency of the information transmission has been the most urgent task in this area. Internet supplies both opportunities and challenges to the development of academic journals in order to better serve the knowledge renovations. Computer and information technology makes lots of convenience to the publications, while it also brings intense international competitions to the readers .This thesis mainly point out electronic academic journals, giving rise to a new direction of the development of publications. Currently web based electronic journals are the two common types,which can be divided into two categories: one is the web version of the traditional journal; the other is the web-based electronic academic journal, or web academic journal. It also analyzes the situation of online academic journal publishing today, following this thesis analyses the readers,the authors,the publishing companies and their needs of the three on the online academic journal from the view of communication studies, it also intends to analyze the brand strategy and publishing modes of online academic journal publishing。What's more the thesis introduces web journals are still in the subordinate status compared to the paper-based ones nowadays. The development of web journals has many limitations of the journal organizations. Although many difficulties exist, it is promising that the environment of the development of web journals will be improved greatly with the progress of the information industry in the country and a wonderful prospect of web journals is expected. The end the author points out china's evaluation system on the academic journals is the key of the restricting of its development and give some advice on the future of online academic journal publishing in China.
