With the requirement for storage and the complicate application of storage, the block-based storage interfaces have blocked the development of storage system, the Object-based Storage interfaces come out and feed the needs. The Object-based Storage is the combination of block-based storage and file-based storage and is known as security, scalability, high-performance and intelligence, but the Object-based Storage Controller becomes the bottleneck because of the intelligent management and the complicate protocol decode. In order to overcome this status and improving the performance of the Object-based Storage System, the hardware design of Object-based Storage Controller is studied in detailed.Combined with XScale Micro-architecture processor, the Object-based Storage Controller is implemented with Switch Fabric. The XScale Micro-architecture processor is one of RISC (Reduced Instruction Set Computer) architecture with the advantages of simple structure, faster processing, stronger processing and lower power consumption. It meets with the Object-based Storage Controller.The Switch Fabric can sort out the bottleneck caused by I/O bus and can realize parallelism. The Switch Fabric chip integrates a lot of interfaces, so can save PCB (Printed Circuit Board) board space and simplify design. The Processor circuit,Memory circuit and Flash circuit are very important to Object-based Storage Controller.With the development of integrate circuit, the frequency is higher and higher, the transmission line effect and signal integrity for the high speed circuit is more and more definitely. Synthetically take the transmission line effect and signal integrity into account in Object-based Storage Controller hardware implementation and discuss the methods to ensure the correctness of circuit through simulation. The power circuit debug for Object-based Storage Controller is accomplished with oscillograph and logic analyzer, but the JTAG (Joint Test Action Group) circuit debug for Object-based Storage Controller is not yet started, so only the debug software and the develop environment are introduced.
