Research On License Based Digital Rights Management Policy

With the rapid development of digital content service industry, the problem of pirate and copyright infringement becomes the barrier of the wide use of the digital content .As a result, the digital rights management has posed one of the greatest challenges for digital content communities. Recent Digital Rights Management advances focus on Public Key Infrastructure and related technologies, which resolve the basic problems of secure communication and user identification. However, the customs have more individualized needs and call for better services while the digital content is being applied in the every corner on Internet.This thesis designs Digital Rights Management infrastructure which mainly consists of control set and authority control center. In order to solve the problem of rights inheritance, transfer and delegation, the concepts of original license and usage license are introduced and the control set is defined as a set of original licenses. Combined with these work, the thesis brought out a new Digital Rights Management policy based on license by using the two kinds of licenses flexibly. It also constructs an extensive license structure to optimize the license transfer flow. Finally a prototype system is implemented with Windows Media Rights Manager Software Development Kit. The system is an online multi-media Digital Rights Management platform which can support the license requesting, constructing and issuing to cover the each step of the whole content publishing flow from distribution to usage.The new Digital Rights Management policy can be applied directly in the field of remote education, e-business, peer-to-peer distribution and etc. These technologies and services will get great progress with the policy's future development and its wide application.
