Since the rapid growth of mobile communication technology and its subscribers, more Base Stations are needed to ensure the coverage of the network and the quality of service. When circumstances turn difficult for constructing fiber or copper wires, transporting the data between BTSs and BSCs through radio becomes compelling to telecoms. Traditionally, radio solution refers to by microwave means, but this cost continues to be unpleasing. As the expenses of equipments based on IP network go down inevitably, future interconnections will surely be achieved upon IP platform.Today the IP networks have made some attractive progresses, and meanwhile the TDM networks is becoming a past story. In this case transmitting TDM traffic through IP network emerges as a hot topic. Although VoIP has been run by some Internet Service Providers, its shortcomings on QoS and signaling supporting stop it from largely replacing TDM connections. Luckily, a new technology named TDMoIP comes up to cope with these disadvantages. TDMoIP well supports the transparent transmission of protocols, data and signaling on E1 link. The quality of service is comparable to the circuit connections.This dissertation starts with introducing the development of TDMoIP, compares it with VoIP, SDH and microwave, then explains the value of this technology. After taking a snapshot of the system infrastructure and Abis interface, two different wireless interconnection solutions have been proposed aiming at different applications. Then the schemes of encapsulation, synchronization and propagation are discussed detailedly. After that, the IP disposal mechanisms, including particular encapsulation/de-capsulation solutions and disordered packets treatment, are mainly proposed, researched and validated by the actual platform testing. In the end, the scheme of error control is researched and some conclusions have been attached.
