Wireless sensor networks with mobility,self-organization,data-centralization and many other features are considered as one of the most influential technologies that can change the world in the future.Due to limited embedded battery lifetime at each sensor node,minimizing power consumption in the sensors and processors is crucial to successful and reliable network operation.Power and energy efficiency is of paramount interest,and the optimal WSN design should consume the minimum amount of power needed to provide reliable communication.Error control coding(ECC)is a classic approach used to increase link reliability and lower the required transmitted power.However,lowered power at the transmitter comes at the cost of extra power consumption due to the decoder at the receiver.Stronger codes provide better performance with lower power requirements,but have more complex decoders with higher power consumption than simpler error control codes.If the extra power consumption at the decoder outweighs the transmitted power savings due to using ECC,then ECC would not be energy-efficient compared with an uncoded system.This paper discusses error control technology,mainly the Forward Error Correction(FEC) technology and how can it achieve energy-saving effect in the sensor network.We consider three network models:a single jump cluster network model,a linear multi-hop network model and a flood multi-path model that can be used by network coding.For these models,First of all,I detailed analysis of their energy consumption model,and then based on the model of energy consumption,from the mathematical analysis to the simulation,I detailed discussions related content.For single jump cluster network model,we fast discussed the optimal number of cluster head and the optimal data packet length,then how FEC integrated with them, Finally,we discussed the CRC-FEC joint approach.For The linear multi-hop network,we have introduced the optimal distance between nodes;On the basis of optimal distance,we also discuss the end-to-end FEC and hop-by-hop FEC;For the flood multi-path model,we discussed the network coding technology,and a technology of network coding joint EC coding(NC-FEC)...
