With the increasing competition of global manufacturing markets, developing and manufacturing the high-quality and low-cost products at the shortest time has become the goal of each enterprise's pursuit. Getting assembly sequences, evaluating these sequences and carrying through simulation of assemble process with computer can guarantee assembly feasibility and optimization during actual assembly process, so it is very important to improve product quality, decrease product cost and shorten the periods of developing product. In this paper, a system of process planning facing virtual assembly is studied. The generation, evaluation and simulation of assembly sequence are researched in this system.First, the demands of function, the demands of performance and the demands of information about this system are analyzed in detail. The framework of this system is designed in detail, and the technology of developing the system is introduced.Second, two methods of generating assembly sequences are studied. One method is studying how to generate assembly sequences manually, and the other method is studying how to generate assembly sequences automatically. The first method can get one feasible sequence once, and the second one can get many feasible sequences once.Third, a method about evaluating and optimizing of the assembly sequences is studied. This method has two steps, the fist step based on preferential restriction of assembly while the second step is based on fuzzy evaluation. We can get the best sequence through this method.Forth, the principle of simulation of assembly process is researched, and a method on SolidWorks is introduced in this paper.Based on the theories introduced above, the system of assembly process planning is developed and an example is introduced.At last, the work of this thesis is summarized and the further research orientations are pointed out.
