The majority of enterprises have established a large number of respectively independent transaction processing systems and office automation systems according to the characteristics of their own transaction as well as the needs of business. Meanwhile, these enterprises have also accumulated much transaction data. With the development of transactions, the data mushroom quickly, with many kinds of storage forms. Although there are numerous transaction data, the senior staff only obtains the current operating data as well as some superficial phenomenal data. Nevertheless, they need to know more comprehensive and historical data which reflect the whole process and the analysis of a number of phenomena in order to detect the trends and modes that contribute to make decisions. Market competition intensified, information plays an increasingly significant role for the survival and development of enterprises. Along with the maturity of distributed structure, the improvement of database technology and development of data-processing technology, data warehouse has emerged. It is the inevitable product of the development of computers and data applications. It provides accurate and complete information for the enterprises, also construct large amounts of data summary for many advanced functions and traditional one such as inquiring and statement functions.Along with the continuous progress of decision support systems related advances, operators shift their interests to the data warehouse for the sake of commercial pressure and opportunities. The reason is that data warehouse can convert the collected date the analytical meaningful information. The information system of enterprises structured by data warehouse technology can make information platform develop into data environment instead of original data environment-centered single data vase. In this way, it can provide commercial and decisive information for enterprises. Data in data warehouse are subject-oriented, integrated, stable and flexible data assemble, used to support decision-making process during the management and operations. Different from data base, data warehouse is not an off-the-shell product, but a comprehensive solution ----- operating process by handling and concerting original data to useful information. And its purpose is to establish a systematic data storage environment which separates vast data from traditional operating environment and convert the scattered and inconsistent operating data to integrated and unified information. Staffs belong to different units and of different roles in the same enterprise can use the data and information in order to find new vision, ideas and issues to develop a decision-making system and gain more economic returns.In the past years, managers'making decisions is a pure art---- a gift through long-time experience. Management is considered to be an art because many managers have handled and successfully solved many tough issues using their own individual styles. Those styles stem from creativity, judgment, intuition and experiences, rather than the systematic quantitative analysis methods based on scientific methods. With the constant expansion of enterprises scale and increasing complexity of institution, managers will only have to rely on some crucial, quantifiable indicators rather than mere experience and intuition. While the usually MIS does not work.The competition in automobile manufacturing enterprise is aggravating day by day after China joined WTO. For enterprises, there exist plentiful operating data. But information technology resources and systems cannot convert the data to useful strategic information, on the other hand, it is possible to establish operating and analyzing system by using data warehouse technology, and make a full use of intensive data resources to offer the prompt, accurate, scientific decision support for market management.This paper aims to the theory and technology related to the decision support systems and its target is to offer necessary theoretical basis to enterprises managers, including the development, definition, investigation and systematic structure of decision support systems; the development, definition and systematic structure of data warehouse, as well as the differences and links between data warehouse and data base; the concept of OLAP and analysis method of multidimensional data; the definition and technology of data mining and so on. The paper mainly talks about need analysis and program selection of enterprise managing decision support system. setting a certain automobile enterprise setting operating decision support .First, put forward design need, and then assume the technology plan of data warehouse and the necessary data warehouse tools and runtime environment, finally the design of the system is given in the framework. On one hand, the design of data warehouse is introduced, including needs analysis theme identification and data warehouse modeling. On the other hand, with the enterprise internal ERP system and OA System for data sources, to establish the data warehouse for enterprise management and convert operating data to analyzing data in order to make OLAP and data mining. On the basis of data warehouse, a statistical analysis is achieved by using advanced tools of data warehouse. And the management decision support system based on B/S structure is put forward.Before the implementation of systems, leaders are not easily to obtain accurate data. The major source of data is the various layers of static statements. If implemented, leaders can check needed data through operating decision support system. So the timeliness of decision-making leadership, flexibility and initiative are upgraded, mean while the timeliness and accuracy of decision-making are enhanced. It is rather convenient to transmit information. Information sharing mechanism is thus achieved. The source of information also can be tracked, that means management efficiency is improved and responds rapidly to emerging issues. Through the systematic construction enterprise competitive intelligence network is perfected externally, and internally information processing is standardized, information management mechanism is also improved. For the automobile manufacturing enterprise information resources can be effectively integrated and used. And the overall competitiveness of the enterprise can be also increased.
