Research On Resources Storage Of The Digital Library Based On Grid

Digital library is constructed on the basis of the enormous quantity of digital information resources which can be read and used, and quality service from digital library is based on quality digital resources. Digital library needs to resolve the problem of how to store digital resources safely, how to get data quickly and easily, and how to retrieve data when system breaking down. Therefore, the storage of digital resources is the core mission during the construction of digital library.As the construction of digital library quickens and the technology of storage develops, the storage of resources including capacity for storing information, speed of data transmission, expansibility and sharing etc. is progressing rapidly. However, since modern digital library shows some new features—enormous quantity of information resource, complex type of data, many kinds of server platforms, various demands of readers etc., both traditional centralized-service system(hard disk storage, compact disk tower storage, magnetic tape archives storage ,for example) and current network storage system(NAS, SAN, for example) can't meet with the storage demand of digital information which is on the increase. On the contrary, grid technology is good at solving application problems such as the density of data and the density of throughput, and storage technology based on grid is good at solving the problems such as mass storage and distributed storage .Therefore, this article puts forward a storage approach of digital library on the basis of grid, and also systematically studies its theory and technology.Comparing four storage approaches(DAS, NAS, SAN and ISCSI) which are widely used now, this article describes their strength and weakness, and then points out that the four storage approaches can't completely solve the problem on storage of digital library and grid storage technology should be introduced into the construction of digital library.Analyzing and researching the basic theory of grid storage, this article sums up grid storage's advantages, and discusses relevant key technology regarding the three main problems (mass storage, heterogeneous storage and dynamic storage) digital library is faced with.This article constructs a model of digital library grid storage, and it designs the architecture of model, gross structure and software functional module.Based on the constructed model of digital library grid storage , this article lays out a scheme about application of this model, details four processes of application service including storage description, storage organization, storage monitoring and discovery, storage scheduling, and presents management strategy to guarantee quality and security of storage.
