Research And Design Of A Storage Grid Architecture

Grid technology is believed a key technology to construct IT infrastructure in the 21th century. The core of Grid concept is resource and resource management and use. Storage resource is master in all grid resource because it is a carrier of data, information, knowledge, and so on, computing resource is also based on storage resource. Computing Grid needs new storage system, and Storage Grid is corresponded to hard-disk of Computing Grid supercomputer. It is natural that Storage Grid is becoming realization after Computing Grid.The inevitable outcome of historical development is Storage Grid. Storage Grid renovates and manages storage resource in network. The research on Storage Grid is concentrating on integrating discrete and independent and heterogeneous storage system as a logical entirety.In this dissertation, I studied Storage Grid through the following three aspects and achieved some consequence.1 . Research on storage modules and architecture. Storage modules include Embedded Storage, Direct Attached Storage, Network Attached Storage, Storage Area Network, Storage Virtualization System. There are three storage architectures: Bus Access Storage architecture, Network Access Storage architecture, Virtualization Storage architecture, and the next is Storage Grid architecture in the future. I proposed a layered Storage Grid architecture, and I studied key problems and resource management theory in Storage Grid.2.Data transfer mechanism is a key problem in Storage Grid. Research on data transfer mechanism in Storage Grid, I designed a SG-GridFTP protocol based on GridFTP and a SG-UDP based on UDP to Storage Grid.3.I designed a Storage Grid Testbed and completed I/O request response time experiment in Testbed.
