With the development of electrommunication, multimedia, micro-processor technology, vehicle on-board media system has got its rapid development in vehicle industry. It has been becoming a new growth point of this field, and it also becomes an important subject.This subject focuses on the development and design of a car on-board Video on Demand (VoD) system. Then to complete the management of the media resources in the VoD system becomes the important task of this design. Following the requirements of input, output and control functions, an integrated hardware and software architecture scheme is proposed in this paper. The hardware platform is based on ARM system, and the software platform is based on embedded Linux system, so the need of stability, reliability, maneuverability and expansibility of the whole system is easily satisfied.The first chapter explains the background of this subject. The second chapter addresses the scheme of this design. In chapter three, it takes much effort to explain the building of the software platform which is about the trimming and compiling the embedded Linux operating system. In chapter four, it goes deeply into the completion of the VoD requirements, including the management of transmission, storage, play, process edit of video/audio stream, and design of input, output, GUI functions. The last chapter is the conclusion of the thesis and some suggestions for further development.
