Workflow technology is always a hotspot in the area of computer research and application. It is very important to study the technology in-depth, since it can significantly improve the information standard and operation efficiency of enterprise, hence make them more competitive. With the rapid growth of internet usage and development of Web technology, the web-based workflow management service provide conditions for distributed working and inter-enterprise corporation, and it has become the characteristic of the next-generation workflow management systems (WFMS).The main task of the paper is to implicate the workflow technology in the web environment and bring forward the Workflow Management System model based on J2EE Architecture.Workflow technology and Workflow Management System has been developed for more than twenty years and much experiences and theory about it have been accumulated. In this paper, we first carry on a comprehensive analysis to Workflow and Workflow Management System with elaboration. Then, we introduce the Workflow Reference Model drafted by Workflow Management Coalition (WFMC). After that, we bring forward the ASOP workflow model and it's mathematic definition based on WFMC Workflow Interface. Secondly, we extend the description model of Active Nets by appending "condition" and "term" to it to allows a formalistic description of workflow process. Then, with the support of J2EE's technology, we bring forward the ASOP WfMS architecture and it's realization principium. At last, we also bring forward a suggestion of Enterprise Application Integration with both Enterprise Portal technology and workflow management systems.
