Simulating random movement of sea wave in the wave basin and making research intothe action of sea wave on coastal and offshore structures could provide the reliable basis forengineering design and scientific experimentation. The multi-directional wave maker is thekey problem for the realization of the physical model test.This paper introduces the actuality and development trend of technology of developingwave maker. Then works on the motion control technology and its key issues. Researchssome popular kinds of motion controller and their development trend. And focuses on theZMP controller which bases on SynqNet. Therefore, introduces the advanced performance ofSynqNet.According to the project's requirements and feature, choose the best type of generatingwave and explains the working principle. Then designs the wave maker control system. Thesystem is composed with a client computer and five control computers. Each controlcomputer has a ZMP controller and each controller controls 32 drives. Discusses allcomponents of the control system.At last, designs the communication software that bases on class CSocket, and it cantransfer data between client and control computers. Client computer can also control all thefive control computers.Combined with a Multidirectional Irregular wave maker control system, expatiates theapplication of ZMP motion controller and communication protocol—SynqNet in wave makercontrol system. Because of the ZMP and SynqNet, the multi-directional wave maker has ahigh performance, high synchronization and simply wiring. It is the first application in thisfield with motion controller and servo motor in nation.
