The essence of e-book lies in that it creates value in the digital format. As a product of the digital publishing revolution, people have pinned great hopes on e-book ever since its emergence, with predictions that it would finally replace paper books from time to time. But in fact the development process of e-book is not as smooth as expected, with several development periods such as perception, depression and exploration ones. A crucial factor holding back its development is the inactive involvement of publishing houses in the e-publishing industry. When the E-publishing era has become a reality that publishing houses must face, the necessity and feasibility has looming large. Nevertheless, reality shows that the role publishing houses now play in the E-publishing industry is quite weird. So, what confusions and puzzles publishing houses would encounter while participating in the e-book industry and how should they respond to and adjust themselves accordingly? Based on publishing study and media strategy theories and etc, and with the methods such as content analysis method, this thesis would focus on and explore in various aspects, such as the definition of the role of publishing houses, the awareness of copyright and the distribution of interest, the role traditional publishing houses now play in e-book industry and also try to find some counter-measures accordingly. |
