Modern scientific problems need cooperating research between remote researchers. Visualization system has become the key component of digital modeling. However, current distributed collaborative Modular Visualization Environments (MVEs) failed in supporting large scalar cooperating work. A new grid-based collaborative visualization model and MVE are proposed in this paper.At first, limitations and disadvantages of currently MVEs and applied model are listed. Then, a new Grid-based collaborative visualization model (Collaborative Visualization in Grid computing environment, COVISING), and its formal description are proposed. A collaborative visualization system in Grid computing environment is designed. And its architecture and kernel modules are analyzed.For supporting large scalar user-level collaborative visualization, there are two challenge problems we must be facing up: one is how to convert an operation into a visualization workflow, the other is how to solve the concurrent control problem.An object tree-based index model is proposed to solve the first problem. A concurrent control algorithm based on sorting visualization requests will solve the second problem. Theoretic analysis and experiments proved that this algorithm is correct and efficient.At last, a distributed visualization framework, which is applied in Computational Combustion Dynamics (CCD), is designed and implemented. And a dataset generated from simulating for instable combustion in Liquid Rocked Engine is analyzed with it. Some pattern dynamic phenomena in liquid rocket engine are found.
