With the development of internet and information technologies, esp. of enterprise MIS, the current models of C/S (client/server) and B/S (Browser/Server) become inadequate to the requirements of MIS. The new generation of MIS is not only required to be safe and reliable, but also be quick-deployable, with high efficiency and mobility. The current models on which the enterprise MIS based, e.g. C/S and B/S, both are subjected to certain limitations: B/S model requires continuous online working and thus leads to low efficiency of clients, gigantic data flow and low safety, while C/S needs complicated installation and maintenance, moreover, C/S has no mobility. The smart client application program, that the article studies, combines the powerful functions and flexibility of fat client, and the easy-deployability and stability of browser. The new program overcomes the current shortcomings of clients and brings a fully new and convenient operational interface, and it is believed to be the mainstream of its kind in the future. This article, by taking advantages of smart client, idea and analyzing the shortcomings of current MISs, presents a smart client sales system, which handles normal daily tasks of sales system while completely solved the problems of its ancestors. The improved system covers the new requirements of software operation and enterprise management, realized the following functions:(1) Untouched deployment: For installation, a main program is downloaded and run locally. Registration table or shared components are not necessarily to be changed. Other application components will be automatically downloaded at first time running.(2) Automatic update: When the new version is launched on the server, the clients will automatically find out and download the updates.(3) Offline operation: When offline, the local applications and components are allowed to work.(4) Dynamic loading of application components: The application software developers can design new components upon the public interface of the MIS and upload them to the enterprise'server. The clients will automatically download and load them.(5)Customized user interface: Users can customize their applications and the preferences are stored on the server. The author found out after study and actually practices, that the structure of smart client, cannot only improve the efficiency and convenience of the system, enforce team coordination, but also make use of present resources of the information system to expand into a new system that can fulfill the demand of easy system integration, more complicated application management, lower cost and reuse code. The enterprises can easily operate the smart client to deal with different business requirements, and the MIS is more easily maintained and flexible. The MIS thus can adapt easily to the requirements of quickly changing management and make the information system more powerful.
