Grid was believed to be the next generation of the network. It was a kind of fast growing infrastructure. Grid uses the Internet to organize the computers that distributed all over the world, then, these computers formed to a new big virtual machine. This virtual machine has the powerful data processing capability. But the key of how to organize the discrete resources is how to find them and monitor them efficiently. So the mechanism of how to find and monitor these discrete resources efficiently is always the research point.Grid resource is the abstract data which intend to deal with in the thesis. So, to analyze the characters of the grid resource is very important and necessary. In the grid environment, it provides so many kinds of resources and these resources will change their states with the time flow. For example, the resource which is in use will not be always available, like some resources will be too much or less at some time. Additional, some properties of the resource will not be the same as it first added into the grid.Around the characters of the resource properties, this paper discusses some problems about the resources, such as the descriptions and management related to the resource. According to the characteristic of the grid resource, this paper analyzes the current problems about the mechanism of how to find and monitor the grid resources. And point out the deficiency of existing mechanism. Then proposed a grid resource discovery and monitoring mechanism. This model based on the structured topology and the peer-to-peer technology. We give some descriptions about the model and then according to the model, we give a strategy of how to find and monitor the grid resource. At last, combined to the strategy offered above we give some flow chart and some pseudocode to explain the mechanism more clearly.With regard to the implementations of this paper, we mostly adopt the API provided by the GLOBUS to capture the resource properties and some other around environment properties, and we adopt the JXTA technology to form the peer-to-peer organization.
