The PCI bus has become the most popular computer local bus with such advantages as high performance, low cost, openness, processor independence, etc. In real-time video signal acquisition, transmission and storage, we need to deal with large quantities of digital data at high speed. For this purpose, the thesis developed a video signal acquisition system based on PCI bus, the hardware and software design of which were presented in detail.In hardware design, a SAA7114 chip was used for video signal decoding and A/D converting. A CPLD chip EPM7128S was employed for the generation of the address and write signal to store the digitized video data into high speed RAM IS61LV5128AL. For PCI interface, a PCI9052 chip was used to achieve high speed data transmission between computer and the video signal acquisition system.In software design, the initialization of SAA7114 was performed via I~2C bus. The CPLD logic was realized using VHDL under MAX+plus II environment. The device driver for PCI9052 was developed using WinDriver. And the application program was composed using Visual C++6.0 language.With hardware and software above, pictures with good quality have been obtained, indicating the correctness of the design of the whole system.
