| With the development of Information Technology, more and more IT technologies have been used in the electric power management. The traditional electric meter reading system without IT technology has many shortages, such as the electric power consumption data cannot be got instantly and exactly. It is more and more serious and becoming the bottleneck of the electric power management modernization. How to get these data in an effective way is very sufficent for the management. A new meter reading system with IT technology is required to solve this problem.Based on the investigation of the current electric power meter reading systems such as manual method, wired system, wireless system, this paper brings a new solution based on Zigbee and GRPS wireless communication technology. In this paper the network layer and the application layer of ZigBee protocol have been discussed firstly. Then the automatic meter reading system (AMRS) based on Zigbee has been presented. This wireless scheme can meet various requirements in the meter reading process.This AMRS involves many works such as the implementation of the hardware and software components of the ammeter, programming for the remote communication and management. The main contribution of this paper is to present one complete automatic meter reading scheme and to validate its feasibility, to define the device profile according with the Zigbee standard, to program the ammeter application software, to define and implement the data frame format for communication, etc. This system can automaticly launch and maintain a zigbee network which consists of lots of ZigBee-enabled ammeters. It also can calculate and transmit the electric power consumption data periodically or according to the command of the remote host. |
