In the modern age, people enjoy the advantages coming from the information technology. At the same time, all kinds of problems of information security appear. Those methods which are used to identify someone's status according to his marker or knowledge have been limited. Thereby, some new techniques based on biological characteristics, especially the fingerprint identification, have been developed quickly. The automatic fingerprint identification system (AFIS) attracted great attention in past ten years because people's safety request was higher and higher. There was great progress on fingerprint structure model, fingerprint collecting technology and the development of commercial automatic fingerprint identification system.One of the applications of fingerprint verification is to make auto fingerprint identification system (AFIS). In this paper, a system is established, which consists of four parts, that is, algorithm model (including TMS320VC5416 DSP and memories), control model (including P89C52 SCM and communications between human and machine) , fingerprint capture model (used to sample fingerprint image), communication model (USB interface).Integral notion of the system design is presented at the beginning of the paper. Then technical detail of module design is narrated in each chapter, including the following parts:1. The work flow of whole system.2. The design of doodle power sources and the external memories of algorithm model.3. The construction of control model, and the reality of time division multiplexing data bus.4. The communication interface between control and algorithm models.5. The hardware design of fingerprint capture model which is consisted by DSP and AES2510 slide sensor, the principle and reality of capture program and slide images'reconstruction.6. The hardware and firmware program design of USB device, which is consisted by USB service chip PDIUSBD12 and SCM. The development of driver program and application program on PC.At last, some suggestions for system optimization are also provided. Experiments prove the reasonability and feasibility of this embedded system. The practical value of this system is high, and its perspective is bright. This dissertation will provide some valuable references for designers to manufacture the system based on DSP and single chip machine and the USB interface in embedded system.
