Currently, fingerprint identification is the most widely used identification. The traditional fingerprint identification system are mostly based on personal computer platform, but now, there is a higher request for the portability and the ease of use of fingerprint identification system in fast-developing civil market. Fingerprint identification technology trends to the easy-to-use and miniaturization of embedded fingerprint identification system.The main content of this paper is the application of fingerprint identification technology in embedded platform. Specifically, it can be concluded as follows:1) the characteristics of embedded software and hardware development platform and the implementation of fingerprint identification algorithm in embedded platform,2) research and realization of the fingerprint image preprocessing, fingerprints feature extraction, and minutiae matching algorithms, and 3) studied the fingerprint image segmentation algorithm, and described an effective approach to the segmentation of fingerprint images based on fractal dimension. First, calculated the gradient of fingerprint image, and then employed the concept of fractal dimension, using the differential box counting method to further analyze the image produced by the first step, finally accomplished the segmentation of fingerprints. The experimental results showed that the proposed method performs well in fingerprint segmentation. In this study, by using the MBF200 fingerprint sensor to capture fingerprints on MINI2440 board, finally implemented a complete embedded fingerprint identification system.
