With the development of computer technology, more and more embedded systems are running around us. At the same time, network is becoming a major informational loading and processing model, it is an unprecedented demand to information and network storage system, however, now in network storage area, most of them are based on mature hardware platform and commercial operating systems, which increase the cost and do not master intellectual property.Along with the developmental trend of embedded systems and the need of network information and data process, it is put forward the general design of Network-Attached Storage (NAS) system in which an embedded ARM9 microprocessor EP9315 and Embedded Linux operating system. Firstly, it is presented to the research status of embedded system and network storage system, then a total solution of NAS system based on embedded system is proposed. Secondly, The hardware design of NAS is expounded and EP9315 integrate Ethernet Media Access Controller (MAC) and IDE interface which simplify the hardware design. Lastly, Redboot and Embedded Linux are transplanted in the hardware platform, then through configuring SMB and NFS and installing the management program Webmin based on Embedded Linux, we realize the remote management.In this paper embedded technology combined with the network storage technology, NAS is designed based on ARM and Embedded Linux, which extend the application of embedded technology and point out the development direction of network storage system.
