Generally,Embedded systems are composed of embedded processor chip, peripheral hardware, embedded operating systems and application program and so on, in order to realize various control functions. In the early phase, embedded systems are mainly used in military, aviation and aerospace field, with the rapid development of the communications network technology and integrated circuit design, embedded systems has been used in a large number of Automatic Control, industrial production, military technology and domestic consumer digital devices, which has become one of the most important research directions in the modern electronic field. The content studied in this paper comes from the multi-DSP VXI modules embedded hardware main controlling modules. Firstly, the paper introduced the architecture of Intel XScale processor, the characteristics of embedded Linux operating system and the profile of the current development. Secondly, elaborated the IXP465 processor chip based on the Intel XScale architecture in detail, and which as the core module of the embedded controlling module, then the composition of the hardware and its realization. Thirdly, presents in detail the embedded Linux development process and the main task about transplanting the Linux to the specific hardware platforms. Implemented the Redboot transplanting, the compiling and cutting-out of the Linux kernel, file system production. Finally, briefly giving the analysis of the system performance test tools and methods, and some performance results are given.
