With the popularization of the digital equipment, a lot of standards of digital transimission interfaces have been invented, for example, USB, IEEE1394 and so on.However, USB can only transmit low bit rate high definition picture and low resolution moving picture because of the limit of the bandwidth. Likewise, for the limit of bandwidth, IEEE1394 can only transmit compressed picture of standard definition, besides, due to the complex structure of circuit, IEEE1394 can't apply to the high definition real-time video field. DVI can transmit the uncompressed high definition real-time digital picture, but it's too big and incapable of transmitting digital audio data. In order to overcome these shortcomings, the HDMI is developed. In this thesis, the background of HDMI's appearance and the comparison of HDMI and DVI are introduced. The principle and the structure of HDMI are studied. The structure of HDMI physical layer, the structure of data channel and encoding of HDMI, besides, the process of audio and video in HDMI are expatiated. Brief introductions about technology of TMDS are mentioned. The principle of Inter-IC Sound bus is introduced in detail. A new I~2S bus is designed. The RTL code of I~2S bus is designed with Verilog HDL. The RTL code is simulated by Modelsim. The synthesis of RTL code is performed by Synopsys' Design Compiler and the gat-level netlist is gotten. The static timing analysis (STA) of netlist is performed by Synopsys'PrimeTime. This I~2S bus has simple structure, but can support a data rate of 100MHz.
