Now,Digital STB has been popularized in China..But the function of STB is single,with the innovation of the technology, Net-TV and Digital-TV have inosculated.Therefore Multifunction STB appear.In a single motherboard ,realized the function of IP TV STB.It not only satisfied with the requirement of customer but also reduced th cost of the product. The subject is a part of the Multifunction STB project.It investigate the network, wlan and USB function of the PCI BUS.Thereby,it helps the Digital STB become a media center in family.The thesis is part of the Multifunction STB project.The main core of the Multifunction STB is ATI Xilleon 226,and its frequency is 300MHz.It extend a Ethernet chip of RTL8139D via PCI bus and realized the accessing of Internet; It extend a mini_PCI device via PCI bus and realized the accessing of WLAN; It extend a chip of upd720101 via PCI bus and realized the HOST USB 2.0,thereby,it can support the reader and the mobile storage.The chip of Xilleon226 can extand PCI bus,so the thesis investigate the PCI bus from which it can realize three function: USB2.0, WLAN and Internet.PCI bus , a kind of high-speed 32/64 bits address/data bus, is used as an interlinkage component among the high-compositive and peripheral controller, peripheral commutator and processor / memorizer. PCI local bus supports 64 bits data transimission, main charge of multibus linearity burst, and its transimission speed is up to 132MB/s, which gives PCI BUS development room. At present, PCI has been used widely as extension standard on the world. USB2.0 was issued in 2000, with its high transmission speed 480Mb/s, and then well-known by all the world. Now USB supports three kinds of transimission speed including low speed(1.5MB/S), full speed (12Mb/s)and high speed(480Mb/s), and four kinds of transimission type that are block transimission , synchronous transimission, interrupt transimission and control transimission. Because the technic of USB is agile and facile,so more and more peripheral controllers satisfy with the USB.Communication network has developed from traditional wiring network to wireless network along with quick development of internet. WLAN(wireless local area network), as one of wireless networks, could help people to realize their dream of transferrable office, which creates colorful and free room for us. IEEE802.11, as the most important technology standard of WLAN, is orientated towards corporations' wirless network, which includes IEEE802.11b, IEEE802.11a, and IEEE802.11g. Compatibility and high speed of data transimission of 802.11g makes up disadvantages of 802.11a and 802.11b respectively, 802.11g makes 802.11b equipments upgrade to high speed of data transimission stably which satisfies increasing bandwidth need.The design basis of the thesis is on multifunctional circuit of PCI BUS that includes two USB 2.0 interfaces, one RJ45 standard internet interface and one mini PCI interface of wireless network card. At present whether BUS choice or function extension is applied widely.
