Manufacturing Execution System (MES) is the key portion of enterprise information. And Traceability System is an important part of MES. Application of Traceability System can improve cost reduction of drawing back defective products and optimization of technical flow. UTStarcom Telecom CO., Ltd. - Hangzhou Branch is one of ten biggest electronic product manufacturers in Zhejiang province. It has been using MES developed by UGS since 2005. Due to design and technical flow, the old Traceability System can not meet need of the manufacturer fully. New system must be designed and developed. In a word, this thesis is to introduce research and implementation of Traceability System based on MES.According to characteristics of electronic manufacturing and software in electronic manufacturing, this paper brings out system structure of Traceability System based on MES on the basis of discussing MES. It also introduces analysis, design and implementation of modules. The main contents are as follows:1. It introduces MES technology fully, including history background, birth, development, definition and functions of MES. Then it discusses the present research and future development of MES technology.2. It explains how important traceability is to manufacturers, especially to electronic manufacturers. Based on characteristics of electronic manufacturing and actual circumstance in workshop, it divides Traceability System into 4 functional modules, analyses requirement of modules in detail, and describes non-functional requirement.3. According to principles of designing, it brings out 3-tiers architecture based on Web, optimizes database design of old system and discusses the detail of designing.4. After confirming environment for system on the basis of following principles of platform selection, it describes implementation process and technology issues during the process, then introduces and analyses examples of system usage.5. Conclusions are drawn and the further works of the Traceability System are pointed out.Traceability System has been used in MES of UTStarcom. The result demonstrates that Traceability System achieves the expectant objective and brings large benefit to the manufacturer.
