Research And Software Realization Of MAC Layer Of WCDMA Protocol Stack On UE Based On Windows CE.NET

The forum made up of more than 100 phone companies and manufacturers of communication equipments predicts that the total revenue from global mobile phone operation will reach 1,000 billion dollars, 60% of which will owe to 3G mobile service. From 2G, 2.5G system to 3G system, smooth transition and upgrade is needed. So WCDMA will probably become the dominating standard because it is transited from GSM, which takes up 80% of market of mobile communication presently.The aim in this paper is to develop software of MAC layer of WCDMA protocol stack on UE, based on embedded operating system Windows CE.NET, which belongs to core software of WCDMA terminals. The work is challenging since it deals with core techniques and reference materials are very scarce.In this paper, relevant theories are firstly introduced, including MAC protocol and Windows CE.NET. Secondly it introduces design and realization of software in detail. Lastly, testing of software is introduced and part of results are given out.The work finished in this paper includes design, realization and testing of software of MAC protocol. In detail, all sub-modules in MAC-b and MAC-c/sh entities, which includes adding/reading UE ID, TCTF MUX, scheduling /priority handling etc, and modules in MAC-d except ciphering/deciphering are firstly realized. Secondly interface modules between MAC and other layers and a simple timer are worked out, using message queues and thread etc. Finally, processing programs of data on all channels are coded. The processing programs call above sub-modules to realize transfer of common and dedicated signaling, speech traffic and some packet traffic in PS which are basic required functions in WCDMA specification. After all coding work has been finished, the whole software is strictly tested according to typical examples concluded from the testing files.After detailed testing work, it is proved that the scheme of realization of MAC protocol in this paper can finish main functions required in the specification. So the expectant aim in this paper has been reached.
