H.264/AVC is the latest video coding standard of ITU-T and MPEG. Comparing with other standards, H.264 is designed to enable a higher compression capability and more friendly flexibility of network. CAVLC (Context-Adaptive Variable Length Coding) is advanced technology of entropy coding used by H.264, which is designed to enable a high coding efficiency. ICAVLC(Inverse CAVLC)is used in process of decoding by H.264. So optimization of ICAVLC does us good for higher decoding efficiency and the application of video coding in actual practice.In this paper, a deep research of CAVLC and ICAVLC is made based on analysis for the features of H.264. Five optimization methods of ICAVLC are provided and implemented through programming. The best optimization method is chosen after experiment.The result of experiment shows that the best optimization method speeds up the process of ICAVLC decoding.
