Research On Network Management Security With SNMPv2

Along with the development in computer network, it appeared that a flood of network equipments and the complicated network environment, the network management becomes a problem which can't be neglected. Simple network management protocol (SNMP) is been extensive to apply in network management, becoming industrial standard in fact of the network management.Now, SNMPv2 is being used broadly, but, SNMPv2 has no consideration about security and can not ensure the security network management because of designed limitation. In order to solve the problem of the security, we design SNMPv2 Plus. SNMPv2 Plus can protect against masquerade, modification of Information, disclosure of information and message stream modification with a lower cost, provide security of network management based on SNMP for user.This paper introduces the basic model of network management and the framework of SNMP. Then we analyze the designed limitation of SNMP and the threats it against. Finally we propose the definition and design in detail compared with SNMPv3.
