With the fast development of various services, such as multimedia, video, game-on-line, electronic commerce and so on, the ISP have to do something to provide the band resources to satisfy the new operations by extending the link or adjusting the framework of the net. At the same time, a serious of challenge is also proposed: how to maintain a reliable framework under the pressure of fast growing traffic?The biggest challenge comes from how to satisfy the customers with the fast growing operation. ISP has to map the traffic streaming onto the physical topo. In the beginning of the 90s, it was realized in a nonscientific way, which was based on the router configure——assigning the traffic streaming simply onto the shortest path by IGP. When one of the paths is blocked, extra band is needed. Nowadays, the network of the ISP is bigger and bigger, the forwarding speed needs to be faster and faster, and at the same time, the requirement from the customers is more and more serious. To support the traffic on the network effectively, a definitely different way has to be proposed to map the traffic streaming onto the physical topo.MPLS is a new important technology for the new public network for it supports the traffic engineering. Traffic engineering is realized by transferring much of the operation onto the path defined before.In this thesis, we have a good analysis about the technology of MPLS and MPLS TE, and an application in depth.The principle contributions of the work presented in the thesis are as follows:Analysis of MPLS, including the principle and infrastructure of MPLS,Label distribution protocol and Label switched path and so on.Description about the functional modules of MPLS TE, steps to realize MPLS TE.Details about the High level characteristics of MPLS TE in the VRP system.Validation some functions of MPLS TE.At last, we focus on the possible problems about TE both in technology and in implement, and then point out the work to do in the future.
