In the past few years, the meteorological services in China developed fast. Some meteorological services like integrated observation, forecast and disaster warning ask for more and more demand on timeliness and reliability of meteorological broadband network which provides communication work. Once the network malfunctions, some meteorological services will be affected seriously. The problem that how to reduce affect to meteorological services must be considered in the constructing of meteorological broadband network. The common fault recovery technology applied in meteorological broadband network is hard to satisfy the demands of meteorological services. And MPLS fast reroute technology can provide milliseconds fault recovery. So the research on how to deploy MPLS fast reroute in effect is important for improving reliability of meteorological broadband network.Because of the main MPLS fast reroute algorithms exist problems that network resource consumption is too high or fault recovery delay is not low enough, MPLS fast reroute mechanism isn’t applied widely in the networks like meteorological broadband network. Therefore, with regard to two main MPLS fast reroute algorithms’ problems, this paper designs a new kind of MPLS fast reroute algorithm to improve the feasibility of applying MPLS fast reroute mechanism in meteorological broadband network. This paper does the following three research works in detail:(1) This paper analyzes the performance of Makam algorithm and partial path protection algorithm on three capabilities of fault recovery delay, bandwidth consumption rate and packet loss by theory and simulation experiment. The result shows that Makam algorithm has a problem of more fault recovery delay and packet loss, and partial path protection algorithm has a problem of higher bandwidth consumption rate.(2) With regard to the problems of Makam algorithm and partial path protection algorithm, on the base of partial path protection algorithm, this paper designs a new kind of MPLS fast reroute algorithm by adopting measures that dividing area, sharing the backup bandwidth of links and setting up primary and secondary backup paths. Then, we make simulation experiments to compare the performance on fault recovery delay, bandwidth consumption rate and packet loss. The result shows the new algorithm can speed fault recovery up, reduce backup bandwidth consumption rate and reduce packet loss.(3) This paper compares MPLS fast reroute technology with the fault recovery technology applied in meteorological broadband network. And then, combining with the characteristic of meteorological broadband network, we apply the MPLS fast reroute algorithm which is adopted by this paper, propose a reasonable fault recovery proposal, and discuss the advantages of the new proposal for meteorological broadband network.
