The continual developments of integrated circuit technology and multimedia technology give an important impact on consumer electronics and human being's life quality. Digital audios and videos are widely used in digital TV, Mobile Phone and Portable Media Player. The integrated curcuit technology, obeying the Moore's Law, supplies a low cost implementation for these excellent multimedia algorithms.In this dissertation, we focus on solutions of memory control and on chip communication in the multimedia SoC. There exists a strict limit of the volume of memory and the communication mechanism on multimedia because of the high data rate. The classical way of on chip communication is bus, a time division multiplex method.which is not efficient any more under deep suv-micron design. Instead, Noc technology would be the only solution.The advantages of SDRAM are that it is very small, very cheap and fairly faster, so it is the best selection of external memory. This dissertation describes the architecture and implementation of the SDRAM controller, including control module and data path module.As transistor dimensions are reduced, the interconnect problem is becoming more important. This dissertation describes bus architecture and arbiter algorithm adapted for multimedia SoC. In order to make some basis for the change for logic-centric design to interconnect-centric design, the packet format and communication protocol used in the NoC are elaborated.
