Circuit Design For RMS Calculation Of Voltage And Current Based On ASIC

On the basis of the digital signal processing theory and the characters of voltage and current, the system structure of a kind of new voltage (current) RMS calculator is proposed. According to design flow of modern ASIC, the RMS circuit comes true with digital ASIC. The flow of the front-end design is emphasis in the paper.The RMS calculation is a part of a single-phase multifunction metering chip. The precision of the RMS circuit is one percent. The bandwidth of the RMS circuit is from 45Hz to 75Hz. According to the principles of ASIC design, it confirms the structure of RMS circuit. First, the design meets specifications and timing. Then, it costs small area. In order to meet the principles, the design realizes with a new algorithmic structure and Time Division Multiple Access strategy.It is confirmed that the result of the design meets the specification by the algorithmic verification and test of sample. The design can be used widely, so it is versatile.
