The escalating globalization has increased the scale and complexity of AEC/FM project. Different teams in a project need more closed cooperation than ever, in which the communication is the key issue. The computer and transportation technologies greatly speed the information transfer, but at the same time the quantity of construction documents grows faster. Until now information technology has not known how to integrate the structured, semi-structured and unstructured data all together included in the construction documents. The scarcity of effective information integration essentially results in the inefficient information retrieval in the construction project. This dissertation studies and analyzes a web-based and architectural drawing-oriented model for information retrieval. This model takes full advantage of available computer and web technologies. It provides a quick and simple method to retrieve information for the participants of the construction project by converting the traditional CAD architectural drawings into intelligent drawings with the relevant document links of each building component. Although this model is not mature enough to apply to business , the author argues that it will be a strong tool of AEC/FM information integration after being deeply developed. This dissertation includes the four parts :(1) Analysis of the cause of inefficient information retrieval; conclusion of the necessity and theory of AEC/FM information integration.(2) Analysis and explanation of the main concept of the web-based and architectural drawing-oriented model for information retrieval.(3) Detailing the developing steps, the limits and the proposals of the web-based and architectural drawing-oriented model for information retrieval.(4) Illustrating the developing direction of full AEC/FM information integration.
