As a result of incessant advancement of manufacturing information and increasing market competition, Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) plays a more and more important role in enterprise management for improving enterprise kernel competition abilities. Small and middle manufacturing enterprises at home lack the ability to apply the whole PLM in current because of their limits, thereby they require a new scheme to apply PLM, which can suit their specialties well.Drawing information management system based on PLM (PLM_DIM) is developed with the technology of CAD, engineering database and network through analyzing and summarizing mature drawing information management system in being. The system can manage the whole drawing, documents and data in enterprise system ically, and provide a way for small and middle manufacturing enterprises at home to apply PLM. The main achievements and creative ideas of the paper are as follows:(1) Firstly, the paper presents the conception of manufacturing information and its demand for PLM. Aiming at the actuality of PLM application in small and middle manufacturing enterprises at home, the scheme, which applies PLM preparatorily with the kernel of drawing information management, is provided and drawing information management system based on PLM is developed for small and middle manufacturing enterprises through analyzing of theory, system structure and application condition of PLM.(2) The whole structure of PLM_DIM system is brought forward by analyzing drawing management actuality and practical requirements. The system is analyzed in detail and business flow chart, data flow chart, function structure tree and developing environment of PLM_DIM system are founded.(3) Two kinds of CAD tools, AutoCAD and SolidWorks, are chosen to make further exploitation respectively with ActiveX Automation technology in Delphi environment, inorder to build an open parameterized software drawing library for mechanical engineering standard parts and general parts. The parameters of drawing library are managed uniformly with database technology. Therefore, not only query and statistic of drawing library data is convenient, but also the system has a good expansibility.(4) Various BOM information disposal tactics are expounded to fit for the fact of enterprises. The BOM information in paper is transformed into digital data with image disposal technology and character identification technology; the customer BOM is defined through constructing customized BOM, and BOM automatical creating module is developed in AutoCAD platform at the same time; BOM data can be picked up and collected automatically to make statistical BOM required by customers with format template and rules based on statistical repository.(5) Implement method of drawing cooperative work is constructed by expatiating the conception of Computer Support Cooperative Work and the function requirements of drawing information management system. Familiar cooperation tools are integrated in the drawing information management system, and key technologies are discussed, such as conflict resolution solution mechanism during the course of cooperation, drawing edition management and data cooperative organization technology, etc.(6) Based on the study of theory and practice mentioned above, the prototype system of PLM_DIM system is developed, and some functions of the prototype system are validated in Network CAPP project of Jiajiang Hydraulic Machinery Works.
