With the development of graphical hardware and 3D modeling technologies, 3D models are used more and more in 3D games, industrial product design, virtual simulation and other applications. In order to achieve the reuse of 3D models, 3D model retrieval and related technologies has become a research focus. However, the current 3D model retrieval system often requires the user to input a 3D model instance, or draw a 2D sketch with the mouse and a complex interface, and the retrieval result is often shown by a simple image from a uncertain viewpoint of the model. It is not a intuitive and convenient way for users to find their desired 3D models. In this paper, existing 3D model retrieval systems are described, and a new 3D model retrieval system is designed and implemented based on a planar sketch and 3D scene. In this system, users can directly draw planar sketches on paper, the system automatically identify the sketches and retrieve relevant 3D models according to this sketches. The retrieval results can be displayed in the form of 3D scene. At the same time, users can interact with the system through their fingers. The whole process is easy and intuitive, which greatly enhance the user experience.
