The Manufacturing Execution System (MES) is an information system applied in the application layer of workshops, which emerged only a few years ago. In China, MES is attracting more and more attentions from domestic auto manufacturers, although its application just starts in the Chinese auto industry. However, there has no a single case of comprehensive implementation of MES by Chinese auto manufacturers. Under such circumstance, the adoption of MES in Jiangxi Jiujiang Changhe Auto Co., Ltd. seems to be a typical model to its domestic counterparts. The EMS can effectively strengthen the communications between the upper and lower layers of the information system, and improve the production efficiency and product quality. Therefore, it is of great use value and profound social value.Based on the construction of MES in the welding workshop of Jiangxi Jiujiang Changhe Auto Co., Ltd., this article conducts in-depth research on two key issues, i.e. production process monitoring and quality management system.In order to provide solutions to the issue of data exchange between MES and the company resource planning system at the upper level and the production control system at the lower level during monitoring the production process to facilitate strengthen the communications. In this article, the FTP Protocol is used and, for the purpose of receiving the production plan from the upper level and transmitting it to the lower level and simultaneously receiving the production information of the production equipment at the lower level and returning it to the management system at the upper level , barcode canners and touch panels are adopted. On the other hand, a body tracing system platform is also established, based on the Cimplicity HMI software and the GE-FANUC touch panel. The design of the body tracing system is finalized with the development of the vehicle production queue method and sort programme and the touch panel information collecting programme.With respect to the quality management function of MES, an integral plan is designed for the quality calling system, and a quality calling system is established by means of field bus, quality calling device, PLC, and quality indicating device. The designed functions of the overall system is achieved with the development of the PLC programme for the logical action of this system. Finally, for the purpose of the fundamental function of the report, the report program and the relevant database structures of MES are also designed in this article.In a word, this articles conducts in-depth research on two critical issues of the MES in auto welding workshop, i.e. production process monitoring and quality management system, and some key achievements are obtained, providing feasible plan and theoretical base for the establishment of MES in auto welding workshop.
