With the rapid development of electronics technology, the GPS receiver has become smaller and smaller. The electronic devices with precise time and location information are developing or on the market. So, it is necessary to grasp the design method of GPS receiver.After the introduction to the GPS composing, positioning principle and the fundamental of GPS receiver, a GPS baseband solution using ARM is proposed. Because the GPS signal tracking process needs hardware and software, which have a close relation, co-design of hardware and software is needed. A digital correlator and an ARM MCU are included in the system. The digital correlator is implemented in the FPGA and controlled by ARM. Software realized the GPS carrier and the code tracking algorithm.The GPS signal tracking algorithm includes a 4-quadrant frequency discriminator of the carrier, an FLL of carrier and a DLL of the code. In order to confirm and optimize the algorithm, Simulink was used for the simulation of the algorithm.ARM is used as MCU of the system, which brings the advantage of low power dissipation and high performance.
