Since 1970s, with the high-speed development of software and hardware, the Geographical Information System (GIS) has been improved rapidly towards practical application. At present, it is widely used in lots of fields such as Resource Research, Environment Evaluation, Disaster Forecast, Country Management, City Programming, Traffic Transportation, Water Conservancy and Electric Power, Commonality Establishment Management, Farming Woods Herd and etc.In the filed of software development, the maturing component technology has pushed Object-Orient technology into the phase of utility. Under the conception mode of component technology, a software system can be regarded as a set of objects that can work collaboratively. Each object can provide special service, send special message, and be released it in standard format thus others object can understand and transfer it. Component GIS is a kind of Geographical Information System developed based on component technology. It divides GIS's every great function into lots of small module, each module implement different function. Each module is reliably and effectively combined by standard interface. This thesis applies component GIS in the information management system of residential area to implement graphical management. Firstly this paper introduces definition, characteristic, purpose and the trend of GIS, as well as component technology and ComGIS, then the global design principle and structure of system are expatiate, lastly, its implementation technology is discussed in detail. The software system is designed on Visual C++ platform using ESRI's MapObjects and C++ language. The system data is divided into geographical information and property management information. Geographical information is stored with the Shapefiles file style support by ESRI; Property information is stored with SQLServer database. This two style data is connected seamlessly by programming. This system integrates geographical data and property data into one platform. Users can accurately and rapidly access the property information through geographical information. In this way it not only increases the degree of resource sharing but also improves the management level of the original residential area information system.
