With the growing demand of high performance computation, single high performance computer can't solve some super large-scale application problems that need to interconnect large sets of diverse, geographically distributed resources. Grid is to merge large sets of distributed resources into a huge super computer and realizes resources sharing including computing resources, storage resources, data resources, and so on.In order to effectively utilize Grid resources and improve resource usage, substantial amount of monitored data can be collected. Besides, Grid monitoring system is extremely important for a variety of tasks such as fault detection, performance analysis, performance tuning, performance prediction, and scheduling. The major researches of this paper are listed below:1. Studying the architecture of Grid monitoring system and discussing key issues about Grid monitoring system related to the characteristics of Grid environment. The paper presents its own Grid monitoring system architecture based on the analyses and summaries about existed monitoring system. Because of a large quantities of resources and growing quantities under Grid environment, Grid monitoring system must have a good extensibility in structure. All components of Grid monitoring system should be loosely coupled for the convenient deployment under the distributed environment. At the same time, this paper discusses other key issues about design and implement solved by Grid monitor system.2. Processing techniques of mass monitored data. With increasing of the monitoring time and growing of Grid resources, mass data will be collected. How to store these data both to reduce storage resources usage and decrease to the precise loss to ensure the archive data reality is a considerable problem.3. Mass data visualization technique. Most of Grid monitoring systems just directly display the data gathered. They don't give overall performance characteristic for mass data. Grid as a logical whole that provides convenient and transparent access must supply uniform logical view of monitored data for users. Visualization of Grid monitoring information is a convenient way to get wanted information for users. Moreover, the visualization conforms to the design principle of effective human-computer interaction.4. Designing and Implementing Grid monitoring system: GridView. Through the analyses to the existed monitoring system, GridView is designed and implemented. It has excellent extensibility and easily monitors multi clusters.
