Compares to the traditional distributed computing, the grid computing is no longer limit to the computation resources conformity. It hopes to integrate network, database, precision equipment and all resources. The numerical weather forecast acts according to the atmosphere actual situation, giving certain starting value and edge value, through value computation, solution description weather successional variation process hydromechanics and thermodynamics system of equations, forecast future weather method. The Web Services Resource Framework defines conventions for managing state in distributed systems based on web services. This paper shows how to migrate a traditional distributed scientific computing to a grid computing environment. Taking numeric weather forecast mesoscale module 5 as an example, this paper describes how to design and program a grid computing system and analyze the performance.Using Sun Grid Engine to manage the cluster at the hardware tier, Globus Toolkit is used as the management tool for authentication and resource delivery between different grids. Clients could invoke the grid service version of mesoscale module 5 after being authenticated. The system interacts internally using standard protocol and format such as UDDI, SOAP, WSDL and XML. The Numeric Weather Forecast Grid system we've constructed is composed of two sub grid systems. One is for clients to search service information, the other is for us to publish weather forecast service.We analyze the performance evaluation to the Numerical Weather Forecast Grid system and the actual science computation. Without losing apabilities, the Numeric Weather Forecast Grid system gains higher flexibility and extensibility.
